Strange new things
We had a lovely chat about the ethics of ordering calamari, the *spoiler alert* fact that octopi only live for two years, and how we’re all evolved from the cute little worm like creature on page 34 of Other Minds the Octopus and the evolution of intelligent life.
Our next meeting is the christmas do, where we celebrate in the traditional manner at Khans for a curry. Please see our other post and RSVP there. Note if you’re coming to Brixton Book Group for the very first time you might prefer to come to our next regular meeting (details of which are below).
The books for January are: The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber and A Month in the Country by JL Carr – our next meeting will be on the 24th of January in the Effra Social from 7.30pm – everyone is welcome.
Runners up included: La Belle Sauvage – The Book of Dust part 1 by Philip Pullman, The Bees by Laline Paull, Lud in the Mist by Hope Mirlees, A Million Little Pieces by James Frey, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, and the Regeneration Trilogy by Pat Barker. Remember you can always re-pitch your book again.
