Anyone fancy a challenge?
In the Brixton Book Group postbag:
Hello Brixton Book Club,
We are writing to inform you about an opportunity for your members to get involved in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 6th October 2013, by signing up and running on behalf of READ International, a small charity based in London.
Our mission is to collect unwanted but good quality books in the UK that we can then use to create libraries in Tanzanian secondary schools where the average pupil to textbook ratio is 10:1. So far, we have created 50 secondary school libraries, and sent over 1.3 million textbooks to East Africa!
Taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon is a great way to put your running to the test, and with a fundraising target of £350 it is also a chance to support our programmes in Tanzania, and essentially help us to empower young Tanzanian students to fulfil their potential.
As a small organisation we would love the support of Brixton Book Club to keep this venture flourishing. Please contact sunaina@ readinternational.org.uk If you’d like to know more.
Kind Regards,
Sunaina Sethi
Sounds tempting – although October’s not that far away. See you all for Wolf Hall later.
