Beyond Black
I’m not sure if the book was very short or very unmissable but the room was so full we ran out of chairs on Thursday. The Ballad of Sad Cafe had lots to discuss for such a short novella/long short story and may we all be rescued by a flying hunchback at least once in our lives.

The book for next time is Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel. Copies are in slightly short supply as the publisher is reprinting but some places do have it in stock. It’s relatively long for a book group book, so don’t delay! We’ll be meeting to discuss it on Thursday 3rd November at Effra Social on Effra Road. We meet from around 19.30 and start book talk at 20.00.
Runners up were:
Eat the Buddha – Barbara Demick
The Glitter of Mica – Jessie Kessoy
Cloud Cuckooland – Anthony Doerr
The Woman in Black – Susan Hill
The Slow Road to Tehran – Rebecca Lowe
Anyone is welcome to join, just turn up and look for the people with books – we are usually in the Churchill Room at the front of the pub, but apparently its booked this date so they have said we’ll be sat on the stage in the main room! We will be somewhere anyway.
See you there!
Please note the Churchill Room was already booked for this date, so sounds like we’ll be in the main room, possibly on the stage!
