Last year we picked Infinite Jest as our long read – as it’s taken an infinately long time for everyone to read it, most people haven’t finished it, but it remains the sort of book that you might want to persuade your significant other to read.

So we’ve learned our lesson, and the 2017 Long Read is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.

The read by date for this tome will be announced in due course – some time in the winter.



Going Underground

We had another packed discussion to talk about A Fine Balance – stoicisim in the face of adversity and why is it none of the characters get any breaks.

Book for next time is (Booker Longlisted) The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

Given that Brixton Book Group tend to predict the Booker Prize Winner, bets are on!

Runners up included: Dead Lake, The Plot Against America, Exit West, All the Light We Cannot See, A Long Journey to a Small Angry Planet and Watchmen.

Next meeting is on Wednesday 13th of September in the Effra Social – from half seven, everyone welcome as always.

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting up the meeting! – again we had a packed meeting to discuss the double bill that was Another Day in the Death of America and The Good Immigrant.
