Crossbows: ouch
Hi everyone – apologies for the delay:
(Notes from Alison)
Everyone enjoyed the book, and we a long but inconclusive discussion
about whether Kevin was intrinsically evil or whether it was his mothers
fault. We also talked about how the ending is still shocking/surprising
even though the murder of his sister and dad and use of crossbow rather
than a gun is heavily signalled through the book once you know about it.
The book we chose for next time was The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey
Niffenegger.
The runners ups were:
Atonement – Ian McEwan
Love in the Time of Cholera – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini
Snow – Orhan Pamuk
Kafka on the Shore – Haruki Murakami
It went to a tie break between the winner, Snow, and Kafka on the Shore.
Weirdly I suggested Kafka on the Shore though I hadn’t seen your email
at the time – has been sitting on my shelf for a while waiting to be
read. It was a close second, perhaps you should suggest it again next
time…
Next meeting: October 3rd in the Trinity Arms again (rapidly heading towards the status of Brixton Book Group Local)
