Fun Home

It felt like a homecoming being back in the Churchill Room of Effra Social, even if they have made it a bit fancy, gone very large on Churchill portraits, and taken away the sofas.
I think it’s fair to say Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead didn’t get the best reception, but we still enjoyed talking about it and it’s so nice to be back in the pub.
Having said that I think there is a plan to have a supplementary online discussion on Thurs 2nd September, link in the previous post.
Next book will be Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. And we’ll be meeting on September 23rd at Effra Social again from around 7.30. There is a table booked under my name, and we’ll hopefully be able to use the Churchill Room again.
Runners Up were:
The Lost Symbol – Dan Brown (please stop this Pete, and good work to whoever drew the penis next to it on the doodle)
Men Who Hate Women – Laura Bates
Hamnet – Maggie O’Farrell
Persepolis – Marjane Satrapi
Dune – Frank Herbert
Insignificance – James Clammer
Real Life – Brandon Taylor
Kafka on the Shore – Haruki Murakami
Pronto – Elmore Leonard
We tried and failed to choose a date for the long read discussion of Ali Smith’s Seasonal Quarter, though we did decide a Thurs in Effra Social was easiest. I have therefore set up a doodle with some options.: https://doodle.com/poll/w6w9eu3x35eznych – please vote ASAP if you want to come along and we’ll make a decision let’s say on Monday 6th Sept.
Look forward to seeing you all on the 23rd. Anyone is welcome to join us.
