Headlong
We met to discuss The Buddha of Suburbia, a book which *most* of us enjoyed, whilst having some questions about how realistic Karim’s sex life was. It was great to read something set relatively locally.
Next book will be Headlong by Michael Frayn, an unstoppable farce which will also teach you a lot about Bruegel (including the impossibility of spelling his name correctly, in case I got it wrong here)

Also pitched were:
The Bookshop – Penelope Fitzgerald
The Mermaid of the Black Conch – Monique Roffey
Pachinko – Min Jin Lee
Leonard and Hungry Paul – Ronan Hession
Death and the Penguin – Andrey Kurkov
The Promise – Damon Galgut
Made for Love – Alissa Nutting
We will be meeting at Effra Social on 5th May – we usually start book chat at about 8.
There were actually 2 votes for new books as we also picked a LONG READ. This is going to be Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe. No date set for that yet, but I’ll set up a separate event soon and we will likely pick a date later in the summer to discuss it. (We usually take forever to organise this as we try a bit harder to find a date that suits everyone who is reading it)
