July double bill
Hello everyone,
we had a packed meeting where we discussed the cautionary speculative-fiction tale The Power (thank heavens for the patriarchy keeping us all safe!) Pete went on slightly too long about Wonder Woman, we had a lovely pitch from Daniel about his book on Unbound, and picked 2 books to read for next time.
Generally everyone seemed to like the Power – it perhaps promised greater things than it delivered, but was nevertheless a page turner. And the Brixton Book Group continues it’s uncanny ability to predict the future and pick a prize winning book.

Feel my electric wrath!
We have 2 books to read next time: The Good Immigrant by Nikesh Shukla and Another Day in the Death of America by Gary Younge.
Runners up included the Secret History of Wonder Woman, The Barracuda, The Handmaid’s tale, Judas, All that Man Is and The Girls.
Remember you can always re-pitch a book again if your choice missed out!
Next meeting is on Thursday the 20th of July in the Effra Social from 7.33pm. (so you have 5 weeks)
And finally:
Daniel Ross came along to plug his book on Unbound – it’s called Bobby Denise is Reigning Rampant and is described as The darkly comic story of a retired Las Vegas stage magician and big cat enthusiast, dragged back into the spotlight by the consequences of one huge mistake.
Daniel has promised to come back and hear our thoughts about the book at a meeting in the future – but only if it hits it’s target. We’ve had a couple of authors come along to our meetings, but never twice so for that alone makes it worth backing.
