We had the busiest meeting of the year so far, with 47 people turning up to chat about billionaires escaping the grim reality of an apocalypse in the opulent luxury of a grand hotel. Termush had a mixed reception, but I loved it and write these posts so there.

Book for next time is The Emperor by Ryszard Kapuscinski and we’re meeting on the 20th of March in the Effra Social from 7.30ish.
Runners up included Circe by Madeline Miller, The Safekeep by Yael Van Der Wouden, The Rules of Attraction by Brett Easton Ellis, The Birthday Boys by Beryl Bainbridge, My Life as a Rat by Joyce Carol Jones, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, Elmet by Fiona Mozley and the Djin in the Nightingale’s Eye by AS Byatt.

P.S. We’re working on a project called BookGroups.org.uk – the idea is to build a handy resource with listings of book clubs to join and a guide to starting your own. If you want to get involved, please message on our socials.
