Monsters
Hello bookgroupers. We had a lively meeting where we chatted about The Sympathizer, Apocalypse now, war films and salty squid.

Bribe the quartermaster to save your choice of book with yankee dollars..
After being relocated to make way for the film club (sorry I forgot to book because I’m useless) we picked Frankenstein by Mary Shelley for our next book. It was banned in South Africa and is scary so will fit with the annual festival of all hallows eve. Ideally read the uncensored 1818 version.
Runners up included: The Tent, the Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy, Do not say we have Nothing by Madeline Thein, How to be Both by Ali Smith, The Men who stare at Goats / Now you will be publicly shamed by Jon Ronson and the Better Angels of our NAture by Stephen Pinker.
Next meeting is Wednesday the 19th of October 7.30ish in the Effra Social.
We also talked a lot about podcasts. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Watch this space for more.
