Pride and Prejudice
We had a room packed with Capitalist Roaders, Class Enemies and the Bourgeiosie to kick-off 2022. Possibly some peasants too. Wild Swans is a pretty extraordinary book and really puts people not understanding the younger generation in perspective. Also, you have to admire the ambition, if perhaps not the sanity, of someone deciding to exterminate grass.

Despite Covid and a 700 page book we had a lot of regulars and new faces show up, so welcome to everyone.
The next book is Pride and Prejudice, meeting on Feb 10th from 7.30pm in Effra Social. We will probably be testing you to ensure you haven’t just watched the 1995 TV adaptation (or even more controversially, the Keira Knightley film) instead of reading the book.
Other books pitched were:
Luster – Raven Leilani
Stillicide – Cynan Jones
Hamnet – Maggie O’Farrell
Kitchen – Banana Yoshimoto
How Beautiful We Were – Imbolo Mbue
Regeneration – Pat Barker
Educated – Tara Westover
An American Marriage – Tayari Jones
Apologies for the lack of proper book group doodle, but special thanks to anyone who attempted to help me out by drawing a swan. Chairman Pete will return with his drawing materials soon.
In case anyone’s interested, here’s a link to the Pride & Prejudice (sort of) play. It’s only running until 6th February; so, if you want to see it, you’ll have to get a move on…
