Rebecca
We zoomed away and chatted about JD Vance’s Presidential Bid Hillbilly Elegy, ate curry and had a few beers. It was almost completely unlike last year. I look forward to the return of the pub and normal times. Good discussion though, and it goes to show that we don’t all have to like a book to have a really good chat about it.
After a bit of Secret Santa-ing we decided the best book we read last year was Milkman.

After a few exciting votes, we have 2 books for you to read or start reading over the Christmas break.
First is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier – we might even do a watch along of the 1940 film as it’s available to watch on YouTube. Mrs Danvers definately doesn’t approve of the remake and notes that the first Mrs DeWinter prefers the Laurence Olivier version.
We will be discussing Rebecca at our first meeting of 2021 on Thursday the 14th of January on Zoom – zoom link here.
As we often get people wanting to join in the new year I’ll reiterate how it works: – just turn up, and optionally have a book ready to pitch for us to read next. Our only rule is to turn up at the next meeting if your pitch wins. Remember to wear a funny hat.
Our second book is Lanark by Alasdair Gray – this is our long read which we’ll be picking a date to discuss once enough people have read it and we can agree on a time to do it.
I look forward to seeing you all in the pub once things are back to normal. Stay safe and thanks for being wonderful.
