Sula
I couldn’t make the meeting for Left Hand of Darkness, so am not sure what the consensus was? Tell me what you thought. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a very cold place in the midst of a heatwave.
The next book is Sula by Toni Morrison and we’re meeting at Effra Social on 23rd August from around 7.30pm.
Other suggestions were:
Riders – Jilly Cooper
On Chesil Beach – Ian McEwan
Remains of the Day – Kazuo Ishiguro
Nutshell – Ian McEwan
Anatomy of a Suicide – Alice Birch
The Drowned World – JG Ballard
We also have finally set a date for the current long read and will be discussing House of Leaves on 31st July. This means it will soon be time to pitch new long reads (I’m going to suggest we do this at the September meeting at the start of the new term?) so start to think about things you might want to pitch for that.
**PLEASE NOTE THE CHURCHILL ROOM WAS FULL SO I’VE BOOKED THE RESTAURANT ROOM AT THE BACK OF THE EFFRA INSTEAD**
