The Ballad of Sad Cafe
Effra Social has live music on Thursday at the moment so we were a bit worried, but we still got to sit in the Churchill Room so it all worked out fine. We will have to keep an eye on this so please keep an eye out for any changes of venue.
We had a good chat about Case Study, it was an entertaining read which most people had enjoyed and there was plenty to discuss about the character and antics of Rebecca/unnamed narrator, and the monstrous Collins Braithwaite.

Our next book will be The Ballad of Sad Cafe by Carson McCullers and we’ll be meeting on Oct 6th.
Runners up were:
The God of Small Things – Arundhati Roy
American Pastoral – Philip Roth
Address Unknown – Kathrine Kressman Taylor
Kipps – HG Wells
A Visit from the Goon Squad – Jennifer Egan
Killer in the Kremlin – John Sweeney
Stillicide – Cynan Jones
Just Kids – Patti Smith
We will hopefully still be at Effra Social, but will post here if we change venue. We usually meet from 7.30pm to start book chat from 8pm. Anyone is welcome to come along.
Please note we also have our Long Read discussing Bonfire of the Vanities on 11th October – please check the separate event for that, venue is still to be confirmed nearer the time.
