The Blind Assassin – Margaret Atwood
We had a good chat about Americanah, which had some great characters and I think most people enjoyed despite having backache from lugging about a massive hardback for while.
The next meeting is not going to be until January 23rd so we’ve got absolutely ages. With this in mind we have 2 books! The main book is The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. The supplementary book if you fancy a second read is A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Both great reads, and Owen Meany has a brilliant school nativity scene in it so it’s vaguely festive. Anyway feel free to read either, both or even neither and come along on Jan 23rd for the traditionally massive 1st meeting of the year after you all make resolutions to read more…
UPDATE: As Mango Landin is closed we’re now meeting in the Effra Social from 7.30pm
We had an excellent list of other suggestions too:
The Yellow Birds – Kevin Powers
Trumpet – Jackie K
The Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck
The Grass is Singing – Doris Lessing
Skagboys – Irvine Welsh
A Confedaracy of Dunces – John Kennedy O’Toole
Suite Francaise – Irene Nemirovsky
I’ve posted about the Christmas party separately (it’s on Dec 10th) so hope to see you there, but if not then have a great Christmas and New Year and see you in January.
