The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
The Marriage Plot had a slightly mixed reception. I think most people found it a decent read, but thought the characters a bit one dimensional. It was another very big group, so pitching new books required a loud voice and public speaking skills, so thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The winner was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
We’ll be meeting in Mango Landin on 28th February from 7.30pm.
Other suggestions were:
Day of the Triffids – John Wyndham
Uncle Toms Cabin – Harriet Beecher Stowe
The 100 Year Old Man Who Jumped Out of the Window and Disappeared – Jonas Jonasson
The Night Circus – Erin Morgensson
Freedom – Jonathan Franzen
NW – Zadie Smith
I just found out there is an Adam Curtis documentary about Henrietta Lacks, or at least about her cells, from 1997. Maybe one to try and watch after reading the book? It’s called The Way of all Flesh.
