The Left Hand of Darkness
Amazingly we were not ousted from our usual room by the football, and had a great discussion of The Plot Against America, a book that now seems quite understated compared to watching the news.

America First
The next book is The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula le Guin (which we have previously read as a group back in the different world of 2013), and we’re meeting on WEDNESDAY (unusually) 25th JULY at Effra Social (as usual).
Other suggestions were:
We That Are Young – Preti Taneja
The Lido – Libby Page
Fen – Daisy Johnson
Them – Jon Ronson
Nora Webster – Colm Toibin
Riders – Jilly Cooper
It was a very close run thing with Riders, but the 900+ page count of that ultimately handed the win to Left Hand. Perhaps Riders should be our summer read instead?
Which leads me neatly to House of Leaves, our long winter read – we didn’t get quite as far as setting a date, but are looking to do something in the latter part of July – if you are interested please add yourself to the event for it (https://www.facebook.com/events/382861378880078/) and keep an eye out for updates/a poll on meeting dates.
Please let me know when is going to be the next meeting and which book are we going to discuss. Where exactly is held the meeting please
