Vile weather
The History of Love was pretty well liked despite outwardly looking a bit too chick lit. We had a nice chat in the Mango Landin garden, which is more than we could have done tonight, since the monsoon appears to have hit Brixton.
Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh is the next choice – it’s been suggested a few times, and finally won a vote.
Other suggestions were:
Saturday – Ian Mcwan
The Reader – Bernhard Schlink
Netherlands
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer – Patrick Suskind
Cry, the Beloved Country: A Story of Comfort in Desolation – Alan Paton
Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell – Suzanne Clark
Next meeting: Wednesday, 26 August 2009 in Mango Landin
