Book for next time is Nothing to Envy: Real Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. Runners up included The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, Panty by Sangeeta Bandyopadyay, American Tabloid by James Elroy, Valis by Philip K Dick and the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne.
