Wild Swans
The Haunting of Hill House was appropriately discussed in quite a dark and eerie room (the Churchill Room with the lights low), and although not everyone loved it I think it was generally a popular choice, best read at home alone when mysterious noises were going on outside. The discussion veered off into ghost stories, Ghostwatch, catacombs, the terror of Ouija boards, and other creepy tales.
We won’t be having a normal book discussion meeting in December – just our traditional Christmas curry etc, please see separate post about that.
This means we have 2 months until our next normal meeting on Jan 13th 2022, so some longer books were pitched. The winner is Wild Swans by Jung Chang. We’ll be meeting in Effra Social from about 7.30.

We generally get a few new members joining in Jan, so to pre-empt questions:
– Yes anyone can join, just turn up
– No you don’t have to pitch a new book, but you can if you like
– No it doesn’t matter if you’ve not finished the book, but you might get spoilers
Other books pitched were:
Anna Karenina – Leo Tolstoy
In a Strange Room – Damon Galgut
Circe – Madeline Miller
Dune – Frank Herbert
Moby Dick – Herman Melville
Hamnet – Maggie O’Farrell
See you in 2022!! How did that happen?
